meet the artist: Sarah Slama

I’m an abstract acrylic artist, originally from Flint, Michigan, but I currently reside in Indianapolis, Indiana. 

My journey into art and becoming an artist occurred after experiencing a traumatic brain injury (TBI). This path hasn’t been easy, but it has been profoundly transformative. 

In 2013, things took an unexpected turn due to a TBI, ultimately changing the trajectory of my life. The road to recovery has been filled with challenges, but it also revealed a renewed passion for art that I had never fully explored in the past. As I navigated the ups and downs of my recovery, I found solace and strength in creativity. Art became my language when words felt out of reach, and my brush and camera became tools for healing. 

Through painting and photography I’ve discovered the power of expression. Each piece I create allows me to heal a little more of myself. Each photo I take is a concrete reminder that the world is a beautiful place. My work reflects my journey, blending emotion with imagination, and I aim to inspire others who may be facing their own challenges. Art has therapeutic powers, and I encourage everyone to give it a try.
